Cyclone threat forces Andhra CM to cancel Gulf visit

Vijayawada, December 10: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has cancelled his visit to United Arab Emirates and Kuwait in view of severe cyclonic storm in Bay of Bengal which is set to hit the coast on December 12.

Naidu was scheduled to leave on the four-day foreign tour today.

His visit was aimed at promoting partnership summit scheduled to be held in Visakhapatnam in January 2017.

Finance Minister Y. Ramakrishnudu, Human Resources Development Minister G. Srinivas Rao and Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana and senior officials were to accompany Naidu.

The delegation was to visit Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Kuwait to  invite investment to the state. 

Naidu was also scheduled to visit Telugus in Kuwait to seek their support for ‘smart village’ programme.

The chief minister, who reviewed the cyclone situation with officials today, decided to cancel the visit.

The met office has forecast that severe cyclonic storm ‘Vardah’ may cross the coast between Nellore and Kakinada on December 12.
