A woman official of health department in Andhra Pradesh is suspected to have amassed unaccounted assets worth over Rs.50 crore.
Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) found this during raids on the premises of Swarajya Lakshmi, District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO), Kurnool district.
The sleuths of the anti-graft agency conducted simultaneous raids in Kurnool, Vijayanagaram and Visakhapatnam districts.
The searched were also conducted at DMHO office and apartment in Kurnool. The officials of Central Investigation Unit (CIU) of ACB also seized a house at Marripalem in Visakhapatnam district.
The investigating officials identified few bank lockers of Lakshmi and she has been summoned to Visakhapatnam today to open the lockers.
The ACB officials expect that they will get some clarity on cash, gold, houses and house sites of the health official.
She served in Visakhapatnam in the past and is suspected to have amassed huge wealth during her stint as Resident Medical Officer at KGH from 2006 to 2008. Lakshmi was additional DMHO in Vizag from 2008 to 2010.
She was transferred to Vijayanagaram in October 2010. Lakshmi served as DMHO there and in 2013 assumed charge as incharge regional director. There were several allegations against the official including recruitment of staff nurses and others in violation of rules.
