Andhra’s top excise official arrested on corruption charges

Vijayawada, December 18: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Andhra Pradesh has arrested a senior official of excise department for having assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

K. Lakshman Bhaskar, additional commissioner of excise department, was today taken into custody by ACB officials. They yesterday conducted simultaneous raids at 11 places and identified assets worth over Rs.3.5 crore. The value of these assets in open market is estimated to be over Rs.50 crore.
The assets recovered include two plots, nine house sites, 4.5 acre agriculture land, 370 gram gold, scorpio vehicle, imported liquor bottles and Rs.7 lakh cash.
The official owned lands in Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad and other places in the two Telugu states.
Bhaskar who joined the department in 1994 served in various positions at different places including Visakhapatnam, Guntur, Chittoor,Kurnool and Krishna districts.
