New Delhi/Vijayawada, December 26: Andhra Pradesh government today received Rs.1981.54 crore from National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) for Polavaram irrigation project.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu received the cheque from Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley at a function held in the national capital.
NABARD released a total of Rs 2480.91 Crore is released under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana for Maharashtra,Gujarat and Andhra.
Chandrababu Naidu said it was a happy day for the people of the Andhra Pradesh. “It’s a memorable day in my life. I can never forget this day,” he said.
He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, central minister Arun Jaitley, Uma Bharati and Venkaiah Naidu.
“I’ve made 11 visits to the project and have held 12 virtual inspections on the project as we aim to complete the project by December 2018,” the chief minister said.
He was confident that Polavaram will become lifeline of Andhra Pradesh and solve all its water woes and the problem of drought.
This is the first instalment of NABARD funding for Rs.16,000 crore project.
The Centre, which declared Polavaram a national project in 2014, will bear the entire cost. However, the state government will execute the project.
Jaitely hoped that this will put to rest the sense of distrust people of the state had developed towards the central government.
Venkaiah Naidu said he happy that Polavaram is becoming a reality. He pointed out that foundation stone for the project was laid in 1980.
He reiterated that the central government is committed to the all round development of Andhra Pradesh.
