TDP, YSRCP clash in Gudivada municipality meet

Vijayawada, December 31: Members of TDP and YSR Congress Party clashed during meetings ofGudivada municipal council and Kadapa municipal corporation today in two separate incidents.

In the first incident, councillors of the two parties attacked each other during the meeting of Gudivada municipal council in Krishna district.

The trouble began after YSRCP leaders including local MLA Kodali Nani tried to stop municipal chairman Yalavarathy Srinivasa Rao and some councillors as they entered the meeting hall.

A scuffle broke out between the two sides. Councillors were seen raining blows on each other even as policemen were trying to separate the clashing groups.

Srinivasa Rao and nine councillors recently defected to ruling
Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

The defection helped TDP to unfurl its flag in Gudivada municipality with its strength going up to 25 from the previous 15.

In the last Gudivada civic polls, YSRCP won 21 seats out of the 36-member council. Later, its strength came down by one, when one of its councillors died of ill health six months ago.

In another incident, the corporators of the two parties clashed during the meeting of Kadapa municipal corporation. Tension prevailed when the members of the two parties came to blows over seating arrangement during the meeting.

TDP was demanding changes in seating arrangement in view of the defections of some YSRCP corporators to the ruling party.
