Hyderabad, January 20: Telangana unit of the Congress party today staged protest at the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) office here as part of the nation-wide protest called by All India Congress Committee.
Party leaders and activists led by Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee chief Uttam Kumar Reddy staged a sit-in at the RBI office in Saifabad.
Speaking on the occasion, he alleged that the demonetization of high value currency notes and the subsequent developments have raised questions on the autonomy of RBI.
Reddy said even 70 days after spiking Rs.1,000 and Rs.500 currency notes, neither the government nor the RBI have said anything about its outcome.
TPCC president pointed out that the economic experts have gone on record that demonetization imposed a burden of Rs.1.28 lakh crore on the country’s economy. He alleged that the government took the decision for the benefit of companies like Paytm.
He demanded that restrictions on online payments and cash withdrawal should be lifted immediately.
The Congress leader also demanded that the central government deposit Rs.25,000 immediately in the bank account of each of the poor woman. He also sought compensation for the families of those who died in the queues at banks following demonetization
