Hyderabad, February 14: Police today arrested a gang which had kidnapped granddaughter of Hyderabad’s first commissioner of police and extorted Rs.10 lakh and gold ornaments.
Panjagutta Police arrested three accused and seized one swift car, gold ornaments of 54 grams, and net cash of Rs. 4.25 lakh.
They had kidnapped 61-year-old R.Jayanthi, granddaughter of late Vijaya Rangam Naidu, first Commissioner of Police of Hyderabad (1955) in a swift car on December 27from her office in panjagutta with a conspiracy.
They had extorted Rs. 10 lakhs, gold ornaments, passport and blank cheques from her.
The police, which had registered a case and took up the investigations, arrested the gang. Main accused Joseph Philips had acquaintance with the victim. They had recently opened office Golden Eye Investigation and Security Services and Philips was manager at this office.
Philips with her two friends hatched a conspiracy and kidnapped Jayanthi from the office in a car and took her to Chaderghat area. They demanded Rs. 50 lakhs and when she agreed to pay, they have brought her to HDFC Begumpet branch, where she transferred Rs. 9 lakhs from her account to the accounts of Philip’s wife and daughter.
They then brought her home and extorted gold ornaments, 6 blank cheques, one cell phone and her passport. Again the accused took the victim to Andhra Bank, Panjagutta and made her transfer 1 lakh to the account of Philip’s wife.
The main accused’s wife Nandita Dumpala and daughter Nitika Rechal are absconding.
