Amaravati, March 7: Leader of opposition in Andhra Pradesh assembly Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy today demanded that the speaker allow him one-and-half hour to speak on the motion of thanks to the governor’s address.
He said as he will be the only speaker from YSR Congress party, he should be given the time without any interruptions.
Jagan said Speaker Kodela Sivaprasad Rao should ensure that he gets the full time to participate in the debate. He said it would be injustice to the opposition party if he was not given even one-and-half hour to speak.
YSR CP members Srikant Reddy and P. Ramchandra Reddy also took up the issue with the speaker.
Jagan pointed out that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu always spoke for two to two-and-half hour. He reminded the speaker that during last three years, Naidu’s reply to any debate was not less than two hours.
The speaker said he will allot the time keeping in view the total time available. However, Jagan express his unhappiness over his response.
The leader of opposition complained that the opposition is not being given sufficient time. He said the speaker should ensure that the opposition and the ruling party should get equal time.
Meanwhile, the speaker adjourned the house for some time as YSRCP members rushed to podium and raised slogans when he denied mike to the opposition party during question hour.
Sivaprasad Rao observed that after ministers’ reply to the questions, the YSRCP members were repeating the questions. Taking exception to his remarks, the opposition legislators rushed to the well of the House and raised slogans. Amid pandemonium, the speaker adjourned the house for 10 minutes.
