Telangana to develop lakes in urban areas

Hyderabad, April 11: Telangana’s municipal administration minister K. T. Rama Rao and agriculture minister Harish Rao today reviewed the development and conservation of lakes in urban areas.

They held a meeting with officials at Jalasoudhra here to review issues pertaining to revival and development of lakes under third phase of Mission Kakatiya.

They decided to develop at least one lake in every municipality and district headquarters. They directed officials to prepare an action plan to save lakes and tanks in urban areas from encroachments and to beautify them.

The minister asked officials of municipal administration, revenue and irrigation to ensure coordination for the development of lakes.

KTR directed officials to fix Full Tank Level of all lakes and erect fencing around them as soon as possible.

The meeting focused on development and beautification of lakes in and around Hyderabad. It was decided that Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, Hyderabad Metro Water Works, Pollution Control Board and Tourism department constitute a committee for the purpose.

Hyderabad Metro Water Works was asked to explore all options for setting up sewage treatment plant to treat the sewage flowing into lakes. Pollution Control Board was directed to take steps for stopping industrial waste.
