Bengaluru, May 23 A police constable was on Tuesday battling for life after attempting to commit suicide by consuming poisoned food along with his wife and two children, which turned fatal for them, police said.
“City Armed Reserve (CAR) constable S. Subhash Chandra, 35, is in a critical condition at a private hospital, while his wife Veena, 28, daughter Manya, 3, and 18-month-old son Prithvi were found dead at his house in the city’s northeast suburb,” Deputy Commissioner of Police P.S. Harsha told reporters here.
The tragic incident came to light when a relative of Chandra went to meet him in the police quarters at Hegde Nagar. As there was no response from inside, the relative alerted the police.
“We suspect Chandra consumed food mixed with rat poison after serving it to his wife and two kids for breakfast,” hinted Harsha.
Police shifted the bodies to a state-run hospital for autopsy.
“The cause for the suicide attempt is not known. Priority is to save Chandra’s life first and investigate the incident,” said Harsha.
A case has been registered against Chandra under Sections 302 (murder), 309 (attempting suicide) and 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Chandra, who hails from Belagavi in the state’s northwest region, joined the police service in 2008 and was on deputation to the CAR.
Belagavi is about 500 km from Bengaluru.
