AP Leader of Opposition and YSR Congress president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy had extended support to the State bandh call given by the Left parties on February 8. The bandh is backed by the trade unions and the Congress. Now, the YSR Congress too had extended support to make the bandh a success.
While it is to be seen how TDP’s Chandrababu Naidu government would respond to the bandh as Naidu had opposed such steps by the Opposition in the past, the entire Opposition is now getting ready to make the bandh a success to reflect the anger of the people. Chandrababu Naidu did not allow the Opposition parties to hold protests in the past four years. He did not allow them even to hold protests on special category status or other issues concerning the State. He justified his action saying that the Opposition cannot disturb the normal life of the people by holding protests here and had rather asked them to hold such agitations in Delhi.
“What is the use of these parties holding protests in the State which is already a victim of bifurcation? The bandh and other forms of protests would disturb the normal life and would cause a loss to the State economy,” was all what Naidu has been saying whenever the Opposition planned for a protest. Now, Naidu himself is said to be upset wth the budget and had directed his MPs to hold protests, it is to be seen how he would handle the February 8bandh.
Meanwhile, Jagan Mohan Reddy, who did not comment on the budget, had joined the Opposition parties in the bandh call. He had earlier criticised the TDP and Chandrababu Naidu for the poor show in the budget. He held Naidu responsible for Jaitely ignoring the State in the budget, while restraining from making any comments on the BJP or the Prime Minister.
