KVP emerges the savior of Congress in AP

Rajya Sabha member and senior Congress leader K V P Ramachandra Rao is emerging as the only savior of the Congress party in Andhra Pradesh. He was active during the bifurcation. He has been active in fighting for the State’s issues after the bifurcation. Now, with the injustice done to the State in the Central budget, he is active holding protest inside the Parliament.

There was not a single day in the last four years where he did not fight in the Parliament on issues like Polavaram and other major issues promised for the State. He also did not leave the special category status demand. He had tabled private member bill in the Parliament three times seeking special category status to the State. He led the party in mobilising support from various national and regional parties for the special category status demand in the Parliament.

Once a backyard man of the Congress in Andhra Pradesh politics acting as the insider to late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, the Congress MP is known for his strategic politics. Though not a prolific orator, KVP is seen as a leader who fights for the State and thus helping the Congress for its revival. The bifurcation had reduced the Congress to the zero. Though all the political parties have backed the bifurcaiton, the way the Congress executed the division, angered the people. The Congress could not get deposits from gram panchayat to the Parliament elections, which reflected the sentiments of the people.

However, having lost all the elections in the State, the Congress continued to fight for special category issue during the last four years. It had held series of programmes, collected signatures and even filed cases against Prime Minister for not implementing the provisions of the AP Reorganisation Act 2014. The AP Congress had brought Rahul Gandhi to Guntur along with Akhilesh Yadav and others to raise their voice for the special category status and other constitutional obligations to be fulfilled for the State.

Though the TDP MPs are also holding protests against the Central budget, Ramachandra Rao, is grabbing the show by holding the protests alone. He had stalled the proceedings of Rajya Sabha even attracting the wrath of its vice-chairman Kurien, who also witnessed heated debate at the time of bifurcation.
