Jagan misses the bus

Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, the man in hurry to occupy the top seat in the State, is found missing the bus every time, he gets a chance. He missed his first bus to be the Union Minister when the Congress leadership offered him in place of his demand for Chief Minister’s chair. He did not realise that Union Minister post is one way for him to get into the top seat in the Congress politics.

He really missed the bus in the 2014 elections by a small margin because of his failure to handle the election. He is completely unaware of the electoral politics. He still believes that the huge crowd that turns out at his meetings would also line up for him at the polling booth. He is yet to learn that crowd management is different from voter management.

After being on streets for nearly four years and is setting his eye on the Chief Minister’s seat at least in the next election, Jagan Mohan Reddy had missed a golden opportunity to be champion of the AP politics by raising to the occasion and cashing in on the demands for Andhra Pradesh. He should have given the voice for the concerns of the people after the budget was presented on February 1 by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. But, he remained silent and whatever he spoke about the budget was all to blame Chandrababu Naidu.

People are aware that Chandrababu Naidu had failed to get the promises fulfilled in the last four years. It was then the responsibility of the Leader of Opposition to stake claim and speak for the people giving them the confidence that he would realise their dreams. But, he failed here and the opportunity was timely grabbed by Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan, who spoke for the State issues and went one step ahead by planning for a bigger forum with Undavalli Arun Kumar and Jayaprakash Narayan.

Jagan Mohan Reddy should have come out with a statement or action plan like this to unite all the forces that are ready for a battle with the Central government. He should have called for a meeting with the Left and other leaders, including intellectuals, to form a pressure group and thus should have found his way to the hot seat in the State. What he should realise is not just the elections to win the battle, he require votes to win the election. That would give him the hot seat and he misses it every time.

It is not that the people would rally behind Pawan Kalyan, just because he grabbed the opportunity. But, Jagan Mohan Reddy had missed the opportunity to lead people and emerge as strong alternative to Chandrababu Naidu. It is not too late for him to stop his walk for a day and call for a meeting of the parties and persons who are fighting for the cause of the State. Hope, he would realise it one day and be a constructive and real alternative to Chandrababu Naidu.
