Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had presented his budget on February 1. There was no special allocation of funds to the State in the budget. This had irked the people and their anger is reflected by the MPs, though politically motivated. The State is debating on the budget ignoring the bifurcation promises. The leaders of TDP and BJP are indulging in open criticism of each other.
But, TDP supremo and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is not heard anywhere till now. He did not make a single comment on the budget, even after a fortnight. The man who is known to address the media for hours together on any issue is selectively silent on budget and the injustice done to the State. As Chief Minister and as president of a party, he is expected to speak and address the concerns of the people. He should have been the first to comment on the budget before his party MPs made any point out of it. But, he is selectively invisible. He did not issue a press release to the media about the Central budget. He did not address the media to make the State’s point clear. All that he had been doing was giving leakages to the media about his anger or anguish.
Leader of Opposition Jagan Mohan Reddy had spoken about the budget at a couple of meetings during his padayatra, currently on in Nellore district. Every other party and its leaders have commented on it. But the Chief Minister is allusive. One wonders how a Chief Minister can remain silent when the people are agitating on an important issue like injustice to the State! Can a Chief Minister remain a non-entity to the anguish or anger expressed by the people of the State? Can the head of the government remain detached to the peoples’ protests?
Not speaking about the budget in open and only making some media leaks on core issues like this shows that Chandrababu Naidu is not a fighter but a schemer. He operates from behind and is never seen in the forefront on any controversy. He stands ahead of others if there is a shower of praises and rose petals. But, he hides himself when there is a protest or debate. He hides within the four walls not to be part of the controversy even to make his point clear. A dedicated lobbyist all through, Chandrababu Naidu would continue to hide himself from the people till the present anger of the people gets subsided or engulfs into flames. Till then, we can only see his media leaks from his closed office rooms.
