Package to Bundelkhand is a slap on AP face

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced a whopping investment package of Rs 20,000 crore to Bundelkhand region in the form of defence corridor. Bundelkhand is part of the Uttar Pradesh State which is headed by BJP government. While it is not an eyesore for the people of Andhra Pradesh, it is seen as a slap on their face by Narendra Modi. His decision favouring Bundelkhand is a clear neglect of the State of Andhra Pradesh where people have been fighting for their due share after the bifurcation.

The State was promised something like the Bundelkhand package for the seven backward districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam in Uttarandhra and Kadapa, Kurnool, Chittoor and Ananthapur in Rayalaseema regions. They were promised Rs 50 crore each per year. Four years have gone now and the seven districts were expected to get Rs 1400 crore. Modi had also promised a special package for the State against the special category status. On this account, a few thousand crore of rupees were expected to be given to the State and some projects were to be given. Modi is silent on this. He is also silent on the Vizag-Chennai industrial corridor which was promised to the State. But, he is so generous to give a defence corridor to Bundelkhand. The other corridor between Chennai and Bengaluru was already announced earlier this month, ignoring the promise of Visakhapatnam-Chennai corridor.

His Bundelkhand announcement worth Rs 20,000 crore investments has come as a big shock for the people of Andhra Pradesh. Is it something wrong with the people of the State as a whole or is the fault of the leadership? When UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath could make Modi to give him a Rs 20,000 crore worth corridor, why is AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, an ally, failed to get the same in the last four years? The UP Chief Minister got this whopping investment offer in just one partnership summit, while AP Chief Minister had held two partnership summits so far and is gearing up for the third summit beginning on February 24.

It is high time that Chandrababu Naidu should think about his failures  in getting things done by Modi for the State. Is it because his failure to lobby with the Central government or is it because he has other interests rather than the State interests? Whatever is the reason, Chandrababu Naidu had failed to get things done for the State from Modi, while States like Bihar and UP, besides others, are getting the benefits from time to time.
