BJP MLC Somu Veerraju took Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to the task and had even tore him into pieces at a meet the press programme held in Vijayawada. He had presented copies of the statements of Chandrababu Naidu and Union Minister Y S Chowdary made at different times against the special category status and in favour of the special package announced by the Central government. The statements also include the Chief Minister and the Union Minister claiming that the Central government had given more than expected benefits to the State and there was nothing left.
There were occasions when Chandrababu Naidu said that the special category status was of no use as the States with the status have not witnessed any impressive growth. There were threats by the Chief Minister to the parents of students not to join any agitation in favour of the special category status. There were also statements from the TDP leaders praising the Central government for the special package announced for the State.
Veerraju had attended the meet the press programme with the media news clips to show how the TDP leaders were misleading the people with different statements at different stages in the last four years. He took strong exception to the TDP leaders now shifting the blame on the BJP leadership and also the Central government for having done nothing for the State. Besides presenting a bunch of newspaper clips on TDP’s statements, the BJP MLC also presented the statements of the TDP leaders, particularly the Chief Minister about his election promises and how the TDP government had went back on the promises after the elections.
He had dared the TDP leaders to come for an open discussion on the two issues – the benefits given to the State by the Central government and the promises not kept by the TDP in the State. The TDP leaders who responded sharply to these allegations had nothing to counter them except accusing Veerraju of playing into the hands of Jagan Mohan Reddy.
TDP MLCs Buddha Venkanna and Y V B Rajendra Prasad, spokesman Varla Ramaiah took strong exception to Veerraju’s criticism of Chandrababu Naidu and said that the BJP leader had become MLC only because of the TDP and not because of their own strength. While it is a known fact that the BJP leaders from AP have gained power only because of the alliance with the TDP, it is also a fact that the TDP also came to power with the support of the BJP.
The big Modi wave and the backing of Pawan Kalyan had helped the TDP win the 2014 elections and that too with a small margin, a difference of 5 lakh votes in total. The BJP leaders refute the charges by quoting the total percentage of votes polled for the TDP and claim that the victory was only because of the alliance.
