YSR Congress chief Jagan Mohan Reddy is close to complete the first landmark of his 100 days of walk. He would be embarking on his historical achievement in the next two days, on February 28. He is now in Prakasam district and would create this landmark victory there itself.
Started at his native Idupulapaya on October 6, the 100 days would have been over several weeks ago. But, he had to take break every Friday to attend the CBI court in Hyderabad and that had delayed the record. He had already completed the 1000 km walk out of his set target to 3,000 km. It would take at least three more months for him to reach the capital area, where he is expected to grab the attention of the media and people as well.
Having completed the 1000 km land mark and 100 days historical achievement, there is a lot more for the man in waiting to reach his destination – the Chief Minister’s Office. He lost the CMO slot twice in the past and this time he has high hopes. First time he lost the CMO was when his father died and when the Congress refused to give him the slot. That was a political decision and he could not do much. The second time was the 2014 elections, where he lost the CMO by a small margin of a little over 5 lakh votes. That was because of the bifurcation and the combination of several things. The State being new, the youth and industrialists of the State wanted an experienced leader like Chandrababu Naidu. There was the wave of Narendra Modi, which had come in favour of Chandrababu Naidu here and against Jagan Mohan Reddy. There was also Pawan Kalyan’s factor that kept Jagan Mohan Reddy away from the CMO.
But, 2019 will have no such hurdles for him, provided he understands the political equations. There is so much for him to learn to be a mass leader and win the elections. To be a mass leader he is doing the right thing – being in the midst of people and being available for them. But, to be in the CMO, one has to have a clear strategy – the poll strategy. He needs to learn more on the electoral politics. His attitude towards the party leaders has to change; his approach to the people has to change and his planning for the vote has to change.
The leaders around him should have confidence in him and that comes in them when he listens to them. This is not happening. What is he to the outside world is different from what is he for the party leaders within the four walls. He should have to change this if he is serious about getting into the CMO this time. The second thing is that people are different from the voters. People might be around with him and there might be a popular demand in his favour, but voter is strongest force when he/she stands at the EVM in the polling booth. When the finger goes forward to press the EVM button, the voter should strongly feel for the leadership of Jagan or any leader to win. It is here Indira Gandhi had lost; NTR had lost and many have lost. Jagan Mohan Reddy should win the voter and it is not enough winning the people.
The battle for victory does not end at the polling booth. It ends at the counting table and there is a strategy to be followed for every round of counting. The fight becomes tougher with every round of counting at every table with an EVM. The leader cannot relax even for a single vote or single round at the single table. Like the polling day, the counting day too is important and Jagan Mohan Reddy should understand these dynamics to find his way into the CMO. These dynamics are missing in Jagan Mohan Reddy. There would be many more 100 days and a few more 1000 km landmarks for Jagan Mohan Reddy in the days to come. But, the destination and the dynamics to reach there are more important.
