The Andhra Pradesh Assembly had adopted a resolution congratulating Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on completing 40 years as MLA. Though there are other leaders, like K E Krishna Murthy, in Assembly who have also completed 40 years, the Assembly congratulated only Chandrababu Naidu and not the others. The Assembly passed the resolution unanimously in the absence of the Opposition YSR Congress and with the BJP backing it.
Minister for Legislative Affairs, Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, had introduced the resolution in the Assembly congratulating Chandrababu Naidu. The resolution praised the leadership qualities of Naidu and had listed out the success stories of the leader since the beginning of his career in 1978 as Congress legislator. The resolution hailed the role played by him in August 1984 when Nadendla Bhaskara Rao unseated chief minister N T Rama Rao, but termed the August 1995 coup as historical necessity, when Naidu himself unseated Rama Rao.
A good number of Ministers and MLAs spoke praising Chandrababu Naidu, his leadership qualities and his commitment to the people one after the other. Naidu’s son, Nara Lokesh, who is a Minister, also had his share of praises on his father in the four-hour long discussion.
In his two-hour long response to the resolution, Chandrababu Naidu narrated how he had entered politics and how he had scaled new heights year after the year. His role in the Congress, his role in the TDP and his role in the national politics, he narrated every incident, speaking about himself and his clean politics and his vision, as if no one needed to praise him. The self-appraisal of Chandrababu Naidu and his claims of being the only senior most leader in the country, ignoring the presence of leaders like Sharad Pawar, Mulayam Singh, Sharad Yadav, Advani, Murali Manohar Joshi, Manik Sarkar, Karunanidhi, and so on, only says how balanced is Chandrababu Naidu.
It is not just being a senior politician, there are others who have been the longest serving Chief Ministers in the country, like late Jyothi Basu and Manik Sarkar. The TDP leaders should know that there are contemporaries who have been closely watching the politics of the country and they know facts which cannot be twisted.
He spoke for two hours in Assembly listing out his greatest achievements including that of making Abdul Kalam as the President.
