Jagan MPs get govt nod to use AP Bhavan for fast

YSR Congress MPs have finally got approval from the government to start their indefinite hunger strike at the AP Bhavan in Delhi for the special category status demand. The resident commissioner of the AP Bhavan had given permission to the MPs to start their hunger strike.

The MPs, as per schedule, would give their resignations to the Lok Sabha Speaker today if the House is adjourned sine die. They would then go to the AP Bhavan and start the indefinite fast. Though the fast may not continue for more than a day as MPs Subba Reddy and Varaprasad are diabetics and cannot continue the fast. In all probability, Mithun Reddy, being the youngest, might continue it for longer period. Whatever the number of the days or hours the fast continues, it would have an impact on the people who are up in arms against the Centre for denial of its due share after bifurcation.

The YSR Congress has been fighting for the special category status with its leader Jagan Mohan Reddy holding conclaves for youth and students across the State. While it was the Congress to raise the demand first in the State, it was the YSR Congress that continued the fight with its presence in Assembly and Parliament. Jagan Mohan Reddy, being the Leader of Opposition in the State, had finally set the special category status as peoples’ agenda and the TDP had to follow suit, though it claims big.

It is a welcome move for Pawan Kalyan to pull out from the NDA, keep the TDP at distance and speak on corruption of the State government. Aligned now with the CPI and the CPM, the Jana Sena chief too is planning to go tough on the special category status demand. He is set to walk for an hour, along with the CPI and the CPM leaders, in protest on the national highway in Vijayawada. The Congress too is likely to join the walk and raise its voice.

What is more surprising is the silence being maintained by Pawan Kalyan and the Left leaders about the YSR Congress fight in the Parliament and now the MPs hunger strike. The man who had promised to mobilise support in Parliament if no confidence motion is moved, remained silent later and never extended support to the no confidence motion. He neither made an attempt to muster support in Parliament as promised.

However, he gets the credit for the no confidence motion fight in the Parliament by the YSR Congress and TDP on the ground that the slogan was given by him and followed by the two parties. Interestingly, the Left parties too are giving this credit to Pawan Kalyan despite the fact that he had done nothing for it either in the State or at the Centre.
