Naidu’s fast move is yet another contradiction

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had decided to go on one day fast on his birthday, April 20 to expose the injustice done to the State by the NDA government. While he is welcome to undertake the fast, one wonders why he had blamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his fast on April 12.

The fast like this by the Prime Minister or the Chief Minister is unwanted. If those in power go on fast, who will do justice? Power was given to them to do justice to the people and if they want justice who is to give them? People are wise enough to talk about this. The fast or protest by those in power only exposes their failure to govern. Both Chandrababu Naidu and Narendra Modi have years of experience in administration. Where had that experience gone when they resort to this kind of protest is a big question that they should answer.

It was both Chandrababu Naidu and Narendra Modi who were voted to power together to do justice to the State. Modi had promised the special category status to the State for 10 years – the BJP’s manifesto says so. Chandrababu Naidu wanted it for 15 years. That, among others, was the main agenda of the two leaders in the 2014 elections. They were voted on this.

Having won the polls, the two should answer why they have gone back on the special category status promise? Why did Narendra Modi shifted to special package instead of special category status which was promised and being implemented in 11 States? Why did Chandrababu Naidu give up the special category status and why did he compromise for the special package? The two leaders have spent four precious years going back on the core promise of the special category status. They were voted for five years and they have spent four years denying the core promise. They are now at the last year of their term and speaking about the issue that they have gone back is not acceptable.

Narendra Modi has his point that he had compensated all the benefits of the special category status in the form of special package. He further claims that Chandrababu Naidu had agreed for this alternative arrangement. Now, Chandrababu Naidu refuses the special package and asks for special category status. His day long fast on April 20 is for the special category status, a demand that he had given up in the past and a promise that he forgot for all these four years.

Chandrababu Naidu had contradicted his own statements several times in the last four years and the fast is yet another U turn in his career. He is for sure will make his fast a big issue as he is in power. But, will that help him wash off his role and shift the blame only on the BJP? Time will answer the question.
