The beleaguered Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had written an open letter to Telugu Desam Party (TDP) national president and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu questioning him on his contradicting views on receiving bifurcation benefits to the State. BJP AP unit president Kambhampati Haribabu wrote 30-page letter giving the details of the Central government’s proposals to extend financial assistance to the State and Chandrababu Naidu’s acceptance to the same.
Haribabu also cited a resolution adopted by the NDA in 2017 which was proposed by Chandrababu Naidu himself seeking peoples’ support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the 2019 elections. He said that Chandrababu Naidu himself wanted the people another term for Narendra Modi, which speaks about the developmental initiatives of the Modi-led NDA government at the Centre. He wondered why the TDP chief had gone back on this resolution, when he praised the Prime Minister and the government.
The BJP leader said that the Central government was ready to give Rs 20,000 crore as revenue deficit to the State in the first five years and had started releasing the same for every year. The government had also come forward to give financial assistance to the State at 90 per cent Central share on par with the States having the special category status tag. This would come around another Rs 16,000 crore to the State, he said.
The BJP chief had listed devolution of Central funds to the State under different heads in the last four years and wondered why the State government had not utilised the funds. The BJP leadership was committed to help the State after bifurcation but blamed Chandrababu Naidu for not receiving the support fearing criticism from the Opposition on going back on the special category status demand. He recalled that Chandrababu Naidu had initially agreed for the package and had even praised the Union government for the package. He recalled the State Assembly passing a resolution thanking the Union government for the financial support and wanted to know what made Chandrababu Naidu to go back on his own claims and pull out of the NDA.
Haribabu blamed Chandrababu Naidu for spreading false information among the people on the financial assistance offered to the state by the Central government. He accused Chandrababu Naidu of defaming the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi only for political gains. He said that the BJP would give facts to the people and explain to them how considerate they were to the State.
The BJP president also blamed Chief Minister for planning to go on one day hunger strike and said that the fast was only to mislead people and shift the blame on the BJP. “People are wise enough to understand who is cheating them and who is changing stands frequently. The BJP will go to the people and tell them the facts about the Central government’s support to the state in the last four years and its plans to extend additional financial assistance,” the BJP chief said in the letter.
It is to be seen how the TDP chief would counter this open letter from the BJP and justify his U turn on special category status demand.
