The BJP leadership, which is currently busy with the Karnataka State Assembly elections, is also sparing some time to set things on track for the party in Andhra Pradesh. It had made its incumbent president Kambhampati Haribabu to quit the party post and is set to replace him with a leader who can take on the TDP’s onslaught.
As of now, the TDP is ahead in painting the BJP black in the state over the grant of bifurcation benefits to the State. The TDP had, to some extent, succeeded in projecting the BJP as enemy number 2 for the people of AP with Congress remaining enemy number 1 after bifurcation. If Congress is blamed for the bifurcation, now the BJP is blamed for injustice in the post-bifurcation. This is what the TDP could establish across the State and the BJP could not counter it except for a few voices raised here and there. This is mostly because of the very presence of Haribabu, a pro-TDP leader.
The anti-Chandrababu Naidu voices in the BJP are waiting for Haribabu to go out of the organisation so that they could have freedom to take on Chandrababu Naidu. Though one of these leaders match Chandrababu Naidu’s campaign strategies, the BJP wants to use them all together to counter the TDP chief.
The BJP wants to bank on Daggubati Purandheswari, Kanna Lakshminarayana, Somu Veerragu, Vishnuvardhan Reddy and a few others to hit back at the TDP chief. The party is also said to be getting ready for counter campaign among the people on the benefits it had promised to the State and the back-track by Chandrababu Naidu in receiving them. The BJP had already released a booklet to explain the flow of funds from the Central government to the State and the proposals to give more funds in different forms.
The BJP in AP plans to campaign against the TDP and wants the people to vote against the TDP though not for the BJP. Interestingly, BJP may not get votes to defeat the TDP but has the potential to alter the winning chances of the TDP.
It is widely speculated that the BJP, in its mission against the TDP, is planning to bring both Jagan Mohan Reddy of the YSR Congress and Pawan Kalyan of the Jana Sena together along with the Left parties. It is said that a senior leader of the BJP is working on building alliance between Jagan and Pawan to beat Chandrababu Naidu in the next round of election. If this works out, it is for sure that the TDP would have to give up its hopes of retaining the power in the state. But, there are several ifs and buts in the strategy to work out positively.
