The war within the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in Kurnool is getting murkier with every passing day between Minister Bhuma Akhila Priya and uncle A V Subba Reddy. Though it was initially planned to be settled once for all by party chief Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday, it did not happen as Akhila Priya was unavailable for Naidu’s scrutiny.
Subba Reddy, a trusted lieutenant of late Bhuma Nagi Reddy, he moved away from the family after Nagi Reddy’s death. It is alleged that Akhila Priya did not care to respect Subba Reddy who was always with Nagi Reddy and had messed up the finances of the family after Nagi Reddy’s death. Akhila Priya believes that Subba Reddy had kept a lot of money that belonged to her father Nagi Reddy but did not return it following her father’s sudden death. This had widened the gap between the young politician and the trusted aide of the family.
The flash point was the cycle rally conducted at Nandyal where Akhila Priya’s men attacked Subba Reddy’s rally. Both Bhuma family and Subba Reddy have great influence in Nandyal and Allagadda Assembly constituencies and the people see these two families inseparable. However, with Nagi Reddy’s daughter Akhila Priya taking over the reins, following her father’s death, things changed and the followers are divided.
Akhila Priya feels that she is strong in the district politics as she is the Minister. But, without being any political position, Subba Reddy remains strong there and it is nothing but childishness of Akhila Priya to keep the family’s mentor away. Once out of the cabinet, it is not sure if Akhila Priya can win her Allagadda seat in the next elections, while Subba Reddy continues to enjoy the support of the people.
It is tough for Chandrababu Naidu to settle the differences between Subba Reddy and Akhila Priya as the war had gone to the extent of no reconciliation. Chandrababu Naidu is not ready to lose the Bhuma family in Nandyal and Allagadda segments. At the same time he is not ready to miss Subba Reddy who enjoys greater support and experience in politics. Given this situation, Chandrababu Naidu is buying time and may not do more than just giving a political class to both the warring leaders.
