Senior Telugu Desam Party leader and APSRTC chairman Varla Ramaiah was caught abusing a youth by his caste. This happened in Machilipatnam, the Krishna district headquarters town when he visited the bus stand to inspect the facilities there.
On his visit he had noticed a youth sitting in the bus and watching videos in his mobile without noticing the Chairman. Irked at this, Ramaiah called the youth and asked for his details. The boy told him that he belonged to Madiga community and his parents are daily wage labourers.
Then Varla Ramaiah abused the youth for not focusing on career though the parents are working hard. “You Madiga fellow! You will never change. You are not interested to get good education and good job. Your parents are struggling and you are enjoying watching videos in mobile,” the TDP leader said looking at the youth.
Fellow passengers who saw the TDP leader abusing the Dalit youth shot the entire episode in their mobile and flashed it in the social media which went viral. The TDP leader had received severe criticism from the people across the social media accusing him of being arrogant and violating the SC, ST Atrocities Act by abusing the youth.
This abusive language by the TDP leader had shocked everyone around including the youth. But, Ramaiah justified his comments saying that he was interested only in advising the youth to focus on career than watching the videos at the cost of his parents.
Ramaiah, a police officer who took voluntary retirement more than a decade ago, joined the TDP and became its active leader. He is currently the general secretary of the party and also the chairman of the APSRTC, a nominated post. Earlier, he was the chairman of the AP Housing Corporation.
