YSR Congress chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is set to conclude his month-long padayatra in Krishna district today, Sunday, and enter the neighbouring West Godavari by evening. He had entered Krishna district on April 14 and had made several surprises during his month-long walk in the district.
His entry into Krishna started with the admission of former MLA and Telugu Desam Party leader Yalamanchili Ravi into the party. Ravi, a soft-spoken leader, has some history for his family with his late father, Yalamanchili Nageswara Rao, too was an MLA who defeated Devineni Rajasekhar Nehru. He belongs to Kamma community, which is mostly associated with the ruling TDP.
Later, Jagan Mohan Reddy roped in yet another Kamma family, Vasantha Nageswara Rao and his son Krishna Prasadh from Nandigama area. Nageswara Rao was the home minister in NTR cabinet in 1984 and Krishna Prasad joined the TDP just before the 2014 elections. The family is known in Nandigama and Mylavaram Assembly constituencies and Krishna Prasad is tipped for the Mylavaram segment for the next elections to defeat Minister for Water Resources Devineni Umamaheswara Rao.
There was another strong leader from Rayalaseema, Katasani Rambhupal Reddy, who also joined Jagan Mohan Reddy’s team in Krishna district.
During his walk in the district, Jagan Mohan Reddy made some key promises apart from his regular promises picked up from his Navarathnas, the poll agenda for the next elections. The fresh promises include, giving representation to some of the neglected castes in the elected bodies. He had promised MLCs for Viswabrahmins and Nayee Bhrahmins besides giving due representation to such neglected castes in the elected bodies, through nomination. There are several castes that have not received their political due share even after 70 years of Independence, while a few castes have been enjoying the political power for all these years. This promise of Jagan Mohan Reddy had gone deeper into these castes and other weaker sections which is welcomed by them all and is said to be an advantage to Jagan Mohan Reddy in the next elections.
Meanwhile, the party leaders are making all out efforts to make Jagan’s 2000 km mark in his padayatra on Monday, May 14, in the Eluru rural mandal. The leaders are planning to mobilise huge crowd for the event and also to the public meeting to be held in Eluru in the evening.
