TDP’s efforts failed to convince Karnataka voters

The Telugu Desam Party had made several attempts to reduce the winning chances of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Karnataka elections, results of which are coming out. The TDP had sent its men and material to campaign against the BJP in Karnataka and its deputy chief minister K E Krishna Murthy led the TDP team which worked against the BJP for a fortnight. Initially, the TDP had asked the Telugu-speaking voters of Karnataka to vote for the Congress, but stopped asking votes for the Congress later following criticism here in Andhra Pradesh. It had only asked people to defeat the BJP and did not suggest to whom to vote.

Unfortunately, the Telugu-speaking voters of Karnataka have not taken TDP or Chandrababu Naidu’s call to defeat the BJP. Wherever the TDP leaders campaigned, the BJP had won the seats, as the results are coming out. It is now seen as that the Karnataka voters have found Chandrababu Naidu and his TDP equally responsible for doing injustice to Andhra Pradesh. More than this, it is believed that the Telugu-speaking people in Karnataka acted as the citizen of Karnataka rather than those born in Andhra Pradesh. They found more loyal to Karnataka than Andhra Pradesh and have by voting for BJP, told the AP or TDP to fight their own battles.

Chandrababu Naidu and his TDP leaders took the elections seriously to teach a lesson or two to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah for betraying the people of Andhra Pradesh. Even in the Tirupati meeting on April 30, Chandrababu Naidu made an appeal to the people of Karnataka to vote against the BJP. However, his wishes were not fulfilled and the voters of Karnataka have their own agenda. They did not take up the agenda of Andhra Pradesh in their election.

Now, having lost his battle in Karnataka, it is to be seen how Chandrababu Naidu and his TDP would take forward the battle against the BJP in its own turf, Andhra Pradesh. The BJP too is now serious to take on Chandrababu Naidu. The party is now getting ready to strengthen its base in Andhra Pradehs and the appointment of former minister Kanna Lakshminarayana is seen on these lines. It is to be seen how the BJP would make its next move in Andhra Pradesh to strengthen itself and weaken the TDP in the State.
