It is now the turn of the Maoists to raise their voice for the special category status (SCS) to the State. The banned outfit of the Naxalites have given the bandh call to the people from the Andhra-Odisha Border. Whether or not people would honour it, the party would claim to have observed the bandh on the day and is said to come out with a detailed note on the benefits of the SCS and how the ruling Telugu Desam Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party have betrayed the people on the issue.
A press release made available to the media by the Andhra-Odisha Border committee sought to blame Chandrababu Naidu for the denial of the SCS to the State. The Maoists found the TDP chief changing stands on the SCS in the last four years which was the reason for the BJP to go back on the promise.
The Maoists have accused Chandrababu Naidu of misleading people on the issue by speaking for the SCS twice in the Assembly and later speaking against it several times once he had compromised for the special package in place of the special category status. The Maoists sought to advise the Chief Minister to visit the North Eastern States to learn how those states have developed over the years with the help of the special category status and the benefits that come along with it.
The Naxal outfit tried to point its guns at Chandrababu Naidu for changing his stand on the demand succumbing to pressures from the BJP leadership. The Maoists recalled how both the TDP and BJP have promised the special category status to the State at the time of their election campaign and how the Jana Sena had promised to stand guarantee for the promises of the two parties. Surprisingly, the two parties that have promised SCS have gone back and the Jana Sena had failed to stand guarantee, the Maoists observed.
The Maoists whose presence is limited to a few pockets of the three north coastal districts, appealed to the people to make the bandh a success in the larger interests of the State. Now that the Maoists too have raised their voice it is to be seen if the leaders like Chalasani Srinivas who has been claiming to be the champion of the SCS demand, will extend support to the bandh or remain silent. The ruling TDP and its supremo Chandrababu Naidu who is now claiming to be the only potential fighter to challenge BJP will have to think now and see if he also backs the Maoists bandh or prevents it.
The mass organisations which have announced that they would support anyone who speaks for the SCS, will now support the Maoists bandh or would remain silent.
