Already facing a difficult situation as director, Puri Jagannath has now slide into a tight spot as producer. To introduce his son Akash as hero in the film industry, he directed ‘Mehbooba’ and he also produced the movie along with Charmee in the name of Puri Connects by investing about Rs.20 crore. Puri had no craze for Akash but he believed film ‘Mehbooba’ will do big business because of him and because of this self confidence he made the investment. Puri’s investment is double than what Charmee has invested in the project.
Finally, Puri and Charmee have suffered huge loss with ‘Mehbooba’. It’s not a small loss. Puri sold his assets to make investment in this movie. He invested Rs.9 to Rs.10 crore for ‘Mehbooba’ and spent another Rs.2 crore on publicity and other expenses. Overall, he invested Rs.20 crore on ‘Mehbooba’ but he got only Rs.8 crore in return including satellite, digital and theatre rights. Trade sources said the income may not cross Rs.8 crore. Thus it’s being said that Puri and Charmee will suffer a loss of Rs.12 crore on this movie.
Depending on their investment, Charmee’s loss will be Rs.4 crore while that of Puri will be Rs.8 crore. Selling property and making movies result in such a situation. Critics say while Puri may have confidence in himself, this over confidence never helps. If these losses are to be recovered, Puri will have to make another film with a star hero. However, no hero is ready to do film with Puri. He is facing a tough time. Let us see who will be his next hero.
