Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme is being claimed as the prestigious one for the ruling Telugu Desam Party. Though the Polavaram Project was declared a national project in the AP Reorganisation Act and the project has to be completed at the earliest, the State government took up the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme spending more than Rs 1500 crore. The project was planned to lift water from Godavari river and pump it into the Polavaram Right Main Canal and merge the water into Krishna river above the Prakasam Barrage travelling for 174 km. The Right Main Canal was 80 per cent completed during the Y S Rajasekhar Reddy term and the TDP had just finished the balance 20 per cent besides the pumps to lift the water.
This massive project worth more than Rs 1500 crore becomes useless once the Polavaram Project is completed. Still the government had spent this huge money and completed the project claiming it as a record in the inter linking of rivers.
The BJP leaders from the State have made several corruption charges in the project. BJP MLC Somu Veerraju had even prepared a complaint with some facts and figures and had sent the same to the Central government seeking probe. The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India had found several irregularities in the scheme and found misuse of money in its annual reports. Now, with the two reports on hand – one by the CAG and the other by its MLC – the BJP-led government is making its moves to check mate Chandrababu Naidu.
The State government had spent over Rs 58,000 crore on irrigation projects, 28 projects on priority including Pattiseema. It is said that the government had escalated the cost of every project from the time of its plan to time of its completion or in the course of execution. The lift on Kondaveeti Vagu project in the capital villages too is also seen as a major corruption with the government revising the project cost on several times over the course of its execution. The contractors are paid huge money and the Ministers are getting back their share, it is alleged. The BJP MLC had in detail explained the corruption, the sources said. It is now the turn of the government to act on these reports and give a tough treatment to Chandrababu Naidu.
