Jana Sena chief gets police cover in Srikakulam

A day after Jana Sena Party (JSP) leaders requested state DGP M Malakondaiah to provide security for their party chief Pawan Kalyan, who is on his State-wide ‘Praja Porata Yathra’, the DGP instructed the district Collectors concerned to take care of the security of the leader.

According to the DGP, three sub-divisional police officials will provide security cover to Pawan Kalyan in Srikakulam during his yatra in the district. Also, police in mufti, traffic, law and order personnel and the actor’s own security officers will take care of the Jana Sena chief.  “Security will be given to him even at the places where he stays at night,” the DGP said.

However, the police department is expecting the Jana Sena to provide information about the movements of the leader including his night stay. The Jana Sena leaders have sent a letter to the district SP about Pawan Kalyan’s programme but have not given the detailed schedule for the police to follow.

The Jana Sena had accused the State police of ignoring their leader’s programme and security and threatened to hold the police and government responsible if anything happens to Pawan Kalyan. The State government and the police have, to some extent, ignored Pawan Kalyan after he broke the alliance with the government. There were days and time when Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu himself walked out of his chambers to receive Pawan Kalyan when he visited the Chief Minister’s Office. The police too had provided greater security to the leader from the time of his landing at Gannavaram airport to the places he visited.

But, those days are gone and today Pawan Kalyan is one among the dozens of Opposition leaders and there is no special tag which is why the police ignored his programme in Srikakulam district initially. Now that the DGP had given a clearance the police is likely to provide some security for the Jana Sena chief during his programmes and these instructions are enough for his present programme scheduled for 45 days from May 20.
