Dalit leader Motkupalli Narasimhulu is likely to be the last face of the Telugu Desam Party in Telangana, if one goes by the recent developments. The leader who had advised the party chief to merge TDP with the ruling Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS) in Telangana before the party completely wiped out, had given enough indications to the future of the party in the newly-created state.
Though Chandrababu Naidu is dreaming big for the party in the state after the 2019 elections, the absence of Narasimhulu at the Mahanadu is enough indication to show that the part is set to be washed away in the polls. The party had won just one corporator in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections held after the bifurcation. This was a big slap for the TDP in the State which followed the exit of Revanth Reddy, who joined the Congress.
Given the present scenario, it is clear that the fight is going to be between the ruling TRS and the Opposition Congress in the State where the Communists and the TDP would be winning a few stray seats or losing completely. The expectations of the TDP that the party would emerge as kingmaker after the elections are far from reality.
The absence of Narasimhulu, the Dalit leader and R Krishnaiah, the BC leader, is a big shocker for the TDP for its existence. Leaders like L Ramana are neither popular nor crowd puller. The party cannot survive in the election battles without crowd pullers or mass leaders.
Narasimhulu is a mass leader, may be limited to his Constituency but stood strong with late N T Rama Rao. He was with NTR when Chandrababu Naidu led a coup against NTR in 1995 and had come back to Chandrababu Naidu only after NTR’s death. Perhaps this is the reason why Chandrababu Naidu kept Motkupalli away. He was not one of those who rallied for Naidu in the Viceroy Hotel and Naidu took care of those leades and not those who sailed with NTR during the crisis. This is also the reason why Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary is kept away from power.
Chandrababu Naidu is known for taking revenge against his critics or those who fail to stand for him. Though he is not known to be helping the leaders who stand for him, it is clearly known that he ignores who fail to help him. He also keeps at distance those leaders about whom he feels some threat to his power. Though Motkupalli is not a threat, Naidu ignored him and the Dalit leader is set to quit the party in a day or week.
