Ever since former minister Kanna Lakshminarayana took over the charge of the Bharatiya Janata Party State unit, the party’s line is going aggressive with meticulous planning. Kanna Lakshminarayana, a known rival of Telugu Desam Party and Chandrababu Naidu for decades, is a different man for the BJP now. He is unwilling to let the party be positive to the TDP like under the influence of M Venkaiah Naidu and Kambhampati Haribabu. These two leaders were too soft and friendly with the TDP for all these years which is why the party could not spread its wings across the State, though there was a positive feel among the people for the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
There was a positive wave in favour of Modi in 2014 elections and the mood continued to be so strong till the middle of 2017. The BJP could not make use of this strong feeling to expand its base in the State. There were instances where the TDP leaders have stopped the BJP’s membership drive in the State in 2016-17 and the BJP State unit had to remain silent because of the influence of Venkaiah Naidu and Haribabu. Now that these two leaders are out of the active role in the BJP for different reasons and Kanna Lakshminarayana is leading the party, the relationship or the reaction from the BJP towards the criticism of the TPD is different.
The BJP leaders are holding a protest against the TDP’s criticism. The protest, being organised for the first time in the State, in Vijayawada will start on Monday, and this would follow a series of events across the State. The BJP leadership is gearing up to give a fitting reply to the TDP on its criticism of the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Besides, the party is also gearing up to expose the failures of the TDP to develop the State despite the Central government’s support.
The BJP is coming out with facts and figures about the Central government’s support to the State in the last four years. It has a clear account on the flow of funds from the Central government which would be taken to the people. Be it the cement concrete roads, LED street lights, houses, pensions and other benefits, it is the Central government which is giving funds while the State government is claiming the credit.
Even for Amaravati capital city and Polavaram irrigation project, the Central government had given funds and is ready to doll out more but regrets that the TDP government in the State is not ready to receive the funds or had failed to provide the utilisation certificates to the Central government, which stands as a big technical obstacle in release of funds from the Central government.
“We will expose the TDP’s misrule in the State and explain the helping hand extended by the Central government,” said Kanna Lakshminarayana, giving a warning to the TDP leadership to be ready for a greater exposure.
