Telugu Desam Party supremo and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had asked the rank and file of the party to get ready for the next round of elections. Ahead of 11 months for the next round of elections, Chandrababu Naidu wanted the leadership and the cadre to be on their toes to fight the battle.
Chandrababu Naidu sees that his twin projects of Amaravati city and Polavaram will help him get more votes, while his battle against the BJP for special category status demand would be an added advantage. The development plank, on which he had come to power in the 2014 elections will help him to retain the power as there is a lot of unfinished work in building the new capital city and the Polavaram project. He wants to stay in power for another term to continue these works in the larger interests of the State and the people. This slogan, as he believes, will fetch him more votes in the next round of elections, Naidu told the party leaders.
The way he had addressed his party leaders the other day, and the language that he had used to snub the inactive leaders shows how serious he is on the next round of election. He had told the party leaders to gear up or get out, which was a serious warning to everyone.
Chandrababu Naidu, in a way, had been fighting against the BJP all alone and the support from other leaders from the party doesn’t match the required strength to face the BJP leaders. There are leaders like G V L Narasimha Rao, Kanna Lakshminarayana, Vishnuvardhan Reddy and P N V Madhav are hitting at the TDP with statistics on the Central government’s support to the State in the last four years. On the TDP side, it is just Chandrababu Naidu who is countering it, while the rest like Buddha Venkanna or Y V B Rajendra Prasad and others hit at the galleries with loud mouth not having any substance.
Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu comes out with some substance but he has less time to spare for the party. State planning board vice-chairman, C Kutumba Rao, tried his best to counter the BJP’s onslaught but he was ridiculed by the BJP as he holds a nominated post and is not a TDP leader. With every leader failing to match the BJP’s attack, Chandrababu Naidu had displayed his anger and expressed his displeasure. When it comes to fighting the BJP, Chandrababu Naidu has no supporting hands in the party, while there are half-a-dozen leaders in the BJP. All that Naidu has is the uncompromising support of the leading media.
But, when the BJP gets into action to beat the TDP, it is to be seen how the media would handle it and save the TDP chief. The BJP, which had mastered the media management at the national level, will certainly hold the AP media by its neck to be in its place leaving Naidu to fight his own battle.
