The Bharatiya Janata Party leaders from Andhra Pradesh visited Polavaram project site and inspected the on-going works. The leaders led by party AP unit president Kanna Lakshminarayana, expressed satisfaction over the progress, but alleged heavy corruption in the rehabilitation and resettlement package.
The BJP leaders including former Union Ministers Daggubati Purandheswari and Kavuri Sambasiva Rao, MP Gokaraju Gangaraju, MLAs P Vishnukumar Raju, Akula Satyanarayana, Kamineni Srinivas and Pydikondala Manikyala Rao, MLCs Somu Veerraju and P V N Madhav visited the project site and interacted with the representatives of the contractor and the water resources engineer-in-chief N Venkateswara Rao. The leaders congratulated the contractor – Navayuga Group – for the successful execution of the work.
However, they took serious note of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu taking total credit for the project, while the Central government is giving money. “The credit for the project should go to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Union Minister for Water Resources, Nitin Gadkari for their intervention and the release of funds. “The State government is able to execute the works only because of the Central government giving money. But, the Chief Minister is not giving the due credit to the Central government. Chandrababu Naidu is taking the total credit as if he is constructing the project”, said Kanna Lakshminarayana and Purandheswari.
The BJP leaders are now set to expose the corruption involved in the rehabilitation and resettlement (R & R) package, which was increased by several times after Chandrababu Naidu took over the project. The leaders said that they would study the R & R package proposal of the State government and also look into the claims of late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy completing the package. “There is information that Rajasekhar Reddy government had paid the R & R package, which was again increased and paid by the Chandrababu Naidu government. This involves huge corruption,” the BJP leader alleged.
The BJP leaders are already crying foul of the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme where they find more than Rs 350 crore worth corruption. If they also find their charges right on the R & R package for Polavaram, it would be difficult for the State government to execute the project. As the State government is not giving credit to the BJP and the Centre on the Polavaram, the big question before the State government is will the Centre take over the project work or leave it to the State.
