With the elections nearing, the steps being taken by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana Chief Minister KCR are the topic of discussions. Their moves for their sons are creating interest. Both the chief ministers are said to be preparing strategies to make their sons the chief ministers in the two states in 2019. There are reports that as part of this, both Babu and KCR are planning to contest for parliamentary constituencies besides the assembly seats.
Chief Minister KCR is confident of a win in the coming elections in Telangana. Though the situation in Andhra Pradesh is not so favourable but Chandrababu Naidu is still confident. At the same time, both the leaders have their own expectations as to how the situation will evolve at the Centre. They believe that Narendra Modi will not get the required seats to form the government at the Centre in 2019. If this happens, the regional parties will have a key role. Telangana Chief Minister KCR hopes that a non-BJP and non-Congress front will form the government at the Centre. However, Chandrababu only hopes that the regional parties will emerge stronger at the Centre. His wish is to see that the national parties do not get absolute majority. Overall, both of them hope that the regional parties will have their say at the Centre. If this happens they hope to play crucial role at the Centre by getting themselves elected to the parliament. Not only this, they also believe that this will pave the way for their sons to take over as chief ministers.
TDP leaders like J C Diwakar Reddy and T G Venkatesh have already stated at the party platforms that Chandrababu Naidu’s son Lokesh should become the chief minister. They also expressed the hope that Chandrbabu enter the national politics and become the prime minister. Similar is the situation in Telangana. KCR is said to be planning to make KTR the chief minister. As part of this, he is highlighting KTR. TRS leaders have also psychologically accepted that KTR is the next chief minister. It becomes clear that if these two parties again come to power in the two states, the successors will become the chief ministers.
There are reports that both Chandrababu and KCR believe that the only way they can make their sons the chief ministers and play key role at the Centre is that they contest for MP seats besides the Assembly seats. KCR is contemplating to contest for his sitting constituency Gajwel and Medak Lok Sabha seat. In the last elections, he contested from these two seats. Congress does not have a strong candidate for Medak constituency. That’s why TRS feels the victory will be easy here. Chandrababu is also said to be looking for a parliamentary constituency. It is learnt that he is planning to contest from Vijayawada Lok Sabha constituency where Kamma caste is considered to be in majority. Besides this he is also planning to contest from one of the assembly constituencies falling under this Lok Sabha constituency. If this happens, he will have to leave Kuppam constituency in Chittoor district, which he has been representing for a long time. However, there are also reports that in view of the tough contest in the state and to avoid sending wrong signals to people, he plans to first contest for MLA seat and later enter the national politics through Rajya Sabha. We have to wait and see how the efforts of the two Chandrudus yield results.
