Bharatiya Janata Party is set to go tough against the Telugu Desam Party in the days to come. The party had set its tone at the party core committee meeting held in Vijayawada the other day. It had taken up two issues – explain the Central government’s contribution to the State and counter the State government’s campaign against the Centre and the BJP as well.
In persuasion of this stand, BJP MLC Somu Veerraju had written letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rural Development Minister Narendra Singh Tomar seeking vigilance probe into the irregularities in utilisation of Central government funds. The BJP MLC found several irregularities in the implementation of the MNRGES in the State. He alleged that the State government was showing Rs 13,000 crore spent towards earth (silt) removal in the irrigation tanks alone.
Interestingly, the BJP’s charges against the misuse of funds under MNREGS are the direct hit on Minister Nara Lokesh, who is heading the Rural Development Ministry and responsible for the MNREGS implementation in the State. There have been several allegations against the State government, particularly Lokesh on the MNREGS and in the past too, the Congress and the YSR Congress leaders have made similar allegations.
Congress MP K V P Ramachandra Rao and YSR Congress MPs Y V Subba Reddy and V Vijayasai Reddy have raised the issues in Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha too. These complaints were dismissed by the TDP which had accused the Congress and the YSR Congress of trying to stall the payments for the wage seekers. Now, with the BJP joining the battle and its MLC seeking vigilance probe, the war is set to be tough in the State.
BJP’s Veerraju went one step forward and asked Minister Lokesh to return the national awards that he had received from the Central government for the Rural Development Ministry and the MNREGS as there is huge corruption. He accuses greater level of bungling of funds from the Central government.
The big question before the people of Andhra Pradesh is will Modi order for the vigilance probe that would cause discomfort to Nara Lokesh and his father Chandrababu Naidu?
