TDP & BJP leaders oppose GVL’s intervention

In a surprise development, the leaders of the ruling Telugu Desam Party and its former ally-Bharatiya Janata Party are equally upset over the increasing intervention of BJP Rajya Sabha member, G V L Narasimha Rao over the AP affairs. They are also not happy with his presence in the meetings on AP issues at the Central government level.

The latest was the meeting with the Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on the railway zone for Visakhapatnam. The first to get upset over GVL’s intervention was BJP AP former chief Visakhapatnam MP, Kambhampati Haribabu. It is said that the Union Minister had given importance to GVL to speak on the railway zone issue ignoring the presence of Haribabu.

The leaders feel that GVL is not an MP from Andhra Pradesh and not even the BJP incharge of the AP affairs to have his say on the State issues. GVL represents Uttar Pradesh in Rajya Sabha, though he hails from AP. Even in the BJP, he was never incharge of the Andhra Pradesh and is known very little in the State politics. However, after his election to Rajya Sabha, he had been playing key role in the AP issues.

In fact, GVL was given opportunity to speak on AP issues during the no confidence motion discussion in Lok Sabha in the last fortnight, which did not go well with the BJP or the TDP MPs. Even Haribabu was given less time to speak on behalf of the BJP during the discussion while GVL was given greater time.

It is learnt that the TDP leaders explained to Chandrababu Naidu in detail the outcome of their meeting with Goyal and the CM reportedly expressed his dissatisfaction over the ‘negligent’ attitude of the Centre towards AP. “We should not take the issue easy and should continue our fight,” he told his party leaders.

While Haribabu had expressed his displeasure within the party circles, the TDP MPs are talking about it openly in the Delhi corridors. The resentment over GVL’s involvement and interference is increasing which is not welcomed either by the BJP or the TDP. It is to be seen how GVL would guide his political future in the State amidst this resistance both within and outside his party.
