Already neck-deep in trouble in Telangana, this is a big shock for TDP. This news will give nightmares to the leaders of the party who were hoping to somehow survive in the coming elections with an alliance. With the stand taken by party president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, one of the two remaining MLAs is set to leave the party. There are reports that within few days he will jump to another party. He is none other than L B Nagar MLA R. Krishnaiah. It is learnt that he is almost to leave the party. However, there is still no clarity whether he will float his own party or join Congress, TRS or BJP.
In the previous elections, he was elected on TDP ticket in the face of Telangana wave. He proved the party’s grip in Greater Hyderabad. He effectively countered Telangana movement party TRS. However, with TRS coming to power, the condition of TDP in Telangana turned miserable. With CM KCR’s Operation Akarsh, it lost the ground. In the previous elections, TDP won 15 seats on its own. However, 12 of them crossed over to TRS. Only Kodangal MLA Revanth Reddy was different from others as he joined Congress party. Thus the party is left with just two MLAs. One of them is Satupalli (Khammam district) MLA Snadra Venkat Veraiah and another L B Nagar MLA R. Krishnaiah.
Playing an active role in BC groups and as a leader of a movement to fight for the rights of BCs, Krishnaiah had surprisingly entered the fray as the chief minister’s candidate of TDP-BJP alliance. He won the election but subsequently he was not active in the party. He was unhappy with Chandrababu Naidu. He expressed his displeasure with Naidu for favouring reservations for Kapus. He had announced that he can’t continue in TDP. However, officially he did not leave the party. Now, it is said to be certain that in next few days he will quit the party.
Krishnaiah has an offer ready from TRS. He is said to have been offered ticket from Bhongir Lok Sabha seat. TRS is ready to shift the sitting MP from Bhongir, Boora Narsaiah Goud to some Assembly seat. There are reports that Krishnaiah’s followers and leaders of BC organizations have urged him not to join any other party and form his own party. Anyway, Krishnaiah leaving the party will be a huge shock to TDP.
