Tough fight in TDP over alliance with Congress

The ruling Telugu Desam Party is having tough time these days with the party chief Chandrababu Naidu favouring an alliance with the Congress and majority leaders opposing it. The senior leaders in the party are openly and strongly opposing the move stating that alliance with the Congress would send wrong signals to the people and the cadre too.

Senior leaders K E Krishna Murthy and Ch Ayyannapatrudu have denied any such move by the party. Though Chandrababu Naidu had tried to stop the two leaders from making open statements on alliance, KE had once again went on record stating that there would be no alliance with the Congress in Andhra Pradesh. However, he said the TDP might have alliance with any party in any other State, indicating Telangana.

Now, KE had cleared the line for the TDP chief to go for open alliance with the Telangana State. Interestingly, the Telangana TDP leaders are in favour of forging alliance with the Congress as that would benefit the party here.

Keeping the alliance in Telangana aside, the TDP chief is having tough time with the party leaders, particularly the senior leaders defying him. While he wants to maintain secrecy in any talk about elections, the leaders are going to the media with their own views. There is not much discipline seen in the TDP this time. Those who have been opposing the backdoor entry of Nara Lokesh into the Cabinet are now slowly speaking against the leadership.

Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu was the first to speak against the line of the party when he made a justifying comment on Kapu reservations. When YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy said that Kapu reservation is not in the State hand, there was strong opposition from different quarters, particularly Kapus. But, surprisingly, Yanamala Ramakrishnudu had toed the line of Jaganmohan Reddy on the issue to the much inconvenience of the party, which was, by then, taking on Jaganmohan Reddy.

Now, the senior leaders K E Krishna Murthy and others have started speaking independently of the party chief, which was not seen earlier with Chandrababu Naidu having total control on the party.
