Telugu Desam Party president and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is exploring every opportunity to retain the power in the next elections. Having aligned in the past with most of the parties existing in the State, he is now looking for new friends and new combinations to go for the next elections.
There are strong rumours that Chandrababu Naidu is in favour of aligning with the Congress, enemy number one of the TDP. Taking back the 30 years of politics in the state and the rivalry between the TDP and the Congress, Chandrababu Naidu finds some solace in the Congress to eat into the votes of the YSR Congress. It is to disturb the YSR Congress vote bank, the TDP chief is planning for alliance with the Congress. If direct alliance is not possible due to the political rivalry between the two parties from the grassroots level, the TDP chief is planning to have a secret pact and fund some MLA candidates.
While keeping his options on alliance with the Congress still unclear, Chandrababu Naidu is said to be trying his best to have alliance with the two major political parties from the north. He had reportedly held initial talks with the leaders of Bahujan Samaj Party and Samajwadi Party, both strong contenders from Uttar Pradesh.
According to the available information, Chandrababu Naidu had sent feelers to BSP’s Mayawati that he would help the party candidates financially if the party fielded them. However, he had requested the BSP chief to give him the list of her candidates and if she fails to get enough numbers, the TDP chief had promised to give the candidates too. There are at least 1000 to 5000 votes for BSP in majority of the Assembly constituencies which are now with the YSR Congress. Naidu wants these votes to be taken away from Jaganmohan Reddy.
The TDP chief is also actively looking at the option of going with the Samajwadi Party to split the votes of the BCs. He had reportedly held initial talks with the party chief Akhilesh Yadav and the final talks are yet to be held.
Sources in the TDP say that Chandrababu Naidu is also in touch with the CPI’s Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy and CPM’s Sitaram Yechuri for a possible alliance to take on BJP and Narendra Modi. Though the two Left parties in the State are not in favour of alliance with the TDP, Naidu is said to be using his influence with the national leadership.
If all these plans go well for Chandrababu Naidu, the TDP chief would be funding and distributing tickets for TDP, BSP, SP and the two Left parties, all just to retain power .
