The YSR Congress legislators and its chief Jaganmohan Reddy have asked Assembly Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao to disqualify the defected MLAs. While responding to the appeal of the Speaker to attend the monsoon session of the Assembly, Jaganmohan Reddy and his party legislators said that 23 MLAs from the YSR Congress have defected to the ruling Telugu Desam Party. Four of the defected legislators were made Ministers, they said accusing the Speaker and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu of encouraging horse-trading in violation of the anti-defection law.
The legislators said that they have petitioned the Speaker to disqualify the 23 legislators. They alleged that the Speaker was not taking action against the defectors and was showing them in the YSR Congress list . They said and regretted that there is no democracy in the state.
While asking the speaker to take action against the defectors, the YSR Congress legislators said that they would not attend the Assembly until the Speaker proved that democracy existed in the State.
Interestingly, the 23 defected legislators too have written an open letter to Jaganmohan Reddy accusing him of corruption, criminal attitude and anti-development approach which have prompted them to leave the YSR Congress and join the TDP. They branded Jaganmohan Reddy as an agent of corruption and criminal politics said that they have defected the party to save the new-born State from corruption and criminal politics.
They justified their continuation in the Assembly and said that they were elected to be present in the Assembly to represent the issues of the people and not run away from the Assembly. They dared Jaganmohan Reddy to be present in the House and fight for the people instead of making statements on the streets.
However, the monsoon session of the Assembly would go without the Opposition. This is the third session of the Assembly that the YSR Congress had boycotted accusing the Speaker of not taking action against the defected legislators.
