Telugu Desam supremo and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is camping in Hyderabad today. He is on a busy schedule for the day attending the death ceremony of TDP leader and former Minister Nandamuri Harikrishna along with the family members. Later, he would be then attending a meeting of the TDP Telangana unit on the impending elections.
The party Telangana unit is prepared for the alliance with the Congress and the initial talks were already held both in Hyderabad and New Delhi. The Congress national leadership is keen on having alliance with the TDP expecting that the TDP chief would play a supportive role in the national politics by bringing the non-BJP regional parties together. It is here AICC president Rahul Gandhi looks forward to the TDP to help him form the next government.
But, it is not so easy in Telangana or Andhra Pradesh for the two parties to come together as they have been political rivals right from the beginning. The thirty year old rivalry between the two parties in the Telugu States is not so easy to be ignored to patch up the leaders and cadre of the two parties to come together and work together.
As Chandrababu Naidu is present in Hyderabad, Telangana Congress president Uttamkumar Reddy is planning to have an initial meeting on alliance. Interestingly, the initial meeting held a couple of days ago, had talks about the TDP getting 25 Assembly seats and 2 Lok Sabha seats. The TDP had almost zeroed in on Khammam and Malkajgiri Lok Sabha seats in the alliance for which the Congress had initially agreed.
However, sources in the TDP in Amaravati indicate that Chandrababu Naidu is not ready to have any talks with the Congress leaders at this point of time. He wants to wait and test the feelings of the party ranks and general public on the alliance with the Congress. He is thinking on the possible adverse impact in Andhra Pradesh if the TDP goes with the Congress in Telangana.
