In a swift move, the AP Congress had put YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy in a fix over his stand on the special category status demand to the State.
Former minister and Congress senior leader Sailajanath had raised the issue of the SCS and the electoral alliances in the State and at the national level. He wanted Jaganmohan Reddy to make his stand clear whether the YSR Congress would stand by the side of the Congress which had promised the SCS or will go with the BJP which had denied.
The Congress had promised the SCS and Rahul Gandhi said he would give his first signature on granting SCS to the State if voted to power at the Centre. This was not first time that Rahul Gandhi had made it. He had said this several times in the last two years and the SCS had become the Congress party’s national agenda. The Congress Working Committee too had taken up the issue and reiterated its commitment.
Earlier, Jaganmohan Reddy had said that his party would support whichever the party gives SCS to the State. Referring to this statement, Sailajanath had asked Jaganmohan Reddy whether he is ready to support the Congress as the party and its president have committed to give the SCS to the State.
Sailajanath also gave two options to Jagamohan Reddy – whether to align with the Congress that had committed to give SCS to AP or to align with the BJP that had denied the SCS. Taking the allegations that Jaganmohan Reddy is favourable to the BJP leadership, particularly prime minister Narendra Modi, the Congress leader asked the YSR Congress chief to spell his stand clearly ahead of the elections.
The Congress leaders said that the SCS is the core issue for the State in the next election and people would cast their votes basing on the stand that the parties take on the SCS. He wanted jaganmohan Reddy to come out clearly whether he would stand with the Congress or go with the BJP and that would decide the next polls.
