The Congress party in Telangana, which is making every effort to return to power this time, is pinning all its hopes on AICC president Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the State on Saturday. Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to address two public meetings at Bhainsa in Nirmal district and the district headquarters town Kamareddy, before participating in the Rajiv Sadbhavana programme in Hyderabad.
Though the party is yet to finalise the candidates and alliance with the Telangana Jana Samithi of Prof. Kodandaram and the Telugu Desam Party, the Congress keeping all its hopes on Rahul Gandhi to win the hearts of the Telangana voters. The Congress, as already discussed earlier, had failed to make use of the creation of new state in the last election. However, this time, the party is completely banking on this issue besides exposing the family rule in the State.
The Congress is focusing the family rule with father K Chandrasekhar Rao being the Chief Minister, son K T Rama Rao, a Minister, daughter K Kavitha, an MP and nephew T Harish Rao a minister. All the four of the same family are in the ruling wielding more power in the State. The Congress leaders are now exposing this family rule and the involvement of the family members in the administration.
The second issue that the Congress leaders are focusing this time is the failure of the TRS government in the last four years. Besides reviewing the four years of the government’s rule, the Congress is offering more sops to the voters including hike in pensions and loan waiver to the farmers.
The Congress had also brought the anti-TRS parties together to keep the anti-government vote united. The Congress, TDP and the TJS combine is expected to go together against the TRS. The Opposition unity thus is expected to benefit the Congress to wrest the power from TRS.
Added to these efforts, the Congress leaders are now looking at Rahul Gandhi to help them adding more votes to the numbers that they were able to add to the cart so far.
