A day after Congress president Rahul Gandhi had a meeting with Telugu Desam Party president and chief minister Chandrababu Naidu in New Delhi, the AP Congress had come out with an open statement toeing the AICC president’s line.
AP Congress president Raghuveera Reddy had sent a press release to the media welcoming Rahul Gandhi’s meeting with Chandrababu Naidu. He said that the Congress had been fighting against the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on core issues like special category status to Andhra Pradesh. He said that Rahul Gandhi had promised to give special category status to the State once he is elected as Prime Minister.
The APCC president further recalled that Rahul Gandhi had been fighting against Narendra Modi’s corruption including the Rafale aircrafts purchase deal. The Congress had demanded for the Joint Parliamentary Committee to probe into the Rafale deal. The APCC chief said that the Congress welcomes every person and every party to support Rahul Gandhi in the fight.
“We are welcoming every leader and every party that supports the demands of special category status for Andhra Pradesh. We also welcome everyone who wants to defeat Narendra Modi and make Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Minister,” Raghuveera Reddy said.
However, the AP Congress chief said that the talks on alliance between the Congress and TDP in Andhra Pradesh were not held at this point of time. The concern of the two parties was only to defeat the BJP and save the nation, Raghuveera Reddy claimed.
While only Raghuveera Reddy came out in open, it is to be seen if other leaders of the Congress accept the alliance or reject. The issue now is before leaders like K V P Ramachandra Rao, Kotla Suryaprakash Reddy, M M Pallam Raju and so on whether to share the dais with Chandrababu Naidu or differ.
