Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday clarified that his struggle was only against the BJP-led NDA at the Centre under the Prime Minister Narendra Modi which had destroyed all institutions.
Chandrababu who visited Delhi recently to unite non-BJP political forces and created a sensation by meeting Leader of the Opposition and Congress president Rahul Gandhi, on Thursday met former Prime Minister Deve Gowda and his son and Karnataka Chief Minister Kumaraswamy in Bangalore. In an hour-long meeting with the duo, he discussed the current political scenario at the national level and latest developments.
Later, talking to media, the AP chief Minister said that he was in the garden city to seek the blessings and support of Deve Gowda for the anit-BJP fight which had just begun. He had cordial relations with Deve Gowda when the latter was Prime Minister in the United Front Government, he noted.
Chandababu alleged that Prime Minister Modi was using the CBI, RBI, ED, IT department and other institutions to attack the opposition parties. The Centre which had destroyed all institutions was now vindictive towards its political rivals, he observed. Modi has the dubious distinction of ruining even the RBI and the RBI Governor episode had exposed this, he pointed out.
He also wondered why Modi remained silent on the Rafale controversy. Also, though two years had passed after the demonetization, there were no gains and it proved a futile exercise, he observed. Failure to implement the measure properly, put the economy in disarray. The prices soared, causing misery to the common man, he stated.
Chandrababu also observed that the minorities were feeling insecure and were under pressure ever since the BJP Government took over at the Centre and the Opposition would march forward unitedly with the sole aim of defeating the BJP in the next elections, he revealed.
He announced that the Prime Ministerial candidate would be declared after discussing with everyone and he had already met several important leaders and would meet the leader of the Opposition in Tamil Nadu MK Stalin on Friday and discuss the latest situation.
Speaking on the occasion, Deve Gowda told media persons that they were moving ahead for the 2019 elections ensure formation of a non-BJP Government. The country was facing several problems during the BJP rule at the centre for the past four and a half years, he noted, and felt there is a historic need for all to come together to save the country from the BJP. It was this issue which he discussed with Chandrababu, he revealed, adding that he welcomed the initiative of Chandrababu to save the country, democracy and institutions.
He also said that the Congress party, as the main opposition, had a responsibility and he was happy that Rahul Gandhi had joined others to go forward in this matter.
Karnataka Chief Minister Kumaraswamy said that several changes took place in national politics after the AP Chief Minister visited Delhi and met the Opposition leaders. They had discussed the 2019 elections, he disclosed and hoped that the 1996 situation would repeat. He would work along with AP Chief Minister to defeat the BJP and march ahead, he stated.
