Consensus arrived on seat sharing ?

The partners of the grand alliance in Telangana have almost broke the ice and come to an understanding over the seat sharing.  Keeping some differences on the number of seats to be contested by each partner of the alliance, the Congress, Telugu Desam Party, Telangana Jana Samithi and the Telangana Inti Party (TIP), have formally agreed on the number of seats.

As of now, the Congress is likely to contest 93 seats, followed by 14 for the TDP, 8 for the TJS, four for the CPI and one for the TIP. As a national level understanding was reached between the Congress and the TDP with Rahul Gandhi and Chandrababu Naidu’s meet last fortnight, the TDP had given up its claim for more number of seats and settled for the 14 seats.

It is now left for the alliance partners to set things in order in their respective parties. There is tough competition for the party tickets in both the Congress and the TDP, the big brothers of the alliance. The Congress is having tough time in picking up the candidates at Munugodu, Patancheru, Manchiryala, Suryapet, Illendu, Nagarkurnool, Tungaturti, Devarakonda, Bodh, Adilabad, Yellareddy and Narayanakhed. The Congress leadership in Delhi is likely to have another round of meeting in the next couple of days to clear the names for these segments.

The CPI was given Husnabad, Bellampalli, Wyra and Kothagudem as of now. The CPI leaders are finally settled for the four seats though they have sought even more.

The TDP Telangana president L Ramana had almost completed the initial exercise of picking up the candidates for the 14 Assembly seats. The list is to be cleared by the party chief Chandrababu Naidu. At a brief meeting held in Amaravati on Thursday, Chandrababu Naidu asked the party leaders to ensure that the party had won every seat it was given in the alliance. He further told the TDP leaders that the number was not important but victory.

Prof. Kodandaram of TJS is also now busy with his colleague Dilip Kumar on identifying the candidates for its share of 8 seats. This list too is to be ready by Monday, the sources said.
