Will Jagan respond to SIT notices?

SIT notices to Y S Jagan on Vizag airport attack investigation

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Andhra Pradesh police has once again served notice to Opposition leader Y S Jaganmohan Reddy to give his statement on the attack on him at Visakhapatnam airport on October 25. This was the third notice from SIT to Jaganmohan Reddy, who is refusing to depose before the State police and seeking a Central and independent probe.

Jaganmohan Reddy announced that he had no faith in the State police which headed by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and DGP R P Thakur. He cited the statements of both Chandrababu Naidu and Thakur on the incident attributing it to a political conspiracy by Jagan. Both the Chief Minister and the DGP said that the attacker, Srinivasa Rao, was a fan of Jaganmohan Reddy and the attack was planned to gain sympathy for Jagan. Chandrababu Naidu went one step forward and alleged that the attack was a conspiracy against his government. These statements came hours after the incident and when the accused was in the custody of the Central Industrial Security Force that guards the airport. The accused was handed over to the State police only after a week.

But, even before the attacker was questioned by the State police, there were issues like a banner with Pongal greetings of both Jaganmohan Reddy and Srinivasa Rao photographs appeared in the social media. There was also a claim of a 11-page letter seized from the attacker, which narrated the reasons for his attack on Jaganmohan Reddy and his strong desire to see Jaganmohan Reddy as Chief Minister of the State.

The banner and the letter surfaced in no time and that gives scope for Jaganmohan Reddy to suspect and say that he had no confidence in the State police. He refused to talk to the State police on the incident and sought Central investigation. He had also approached the High Court seeking directions for a court monitored enquiry.

However, the SIT had once again written to him asking him to give his statement on the incident. The big question now is will Jaganmohan Reddy responds to the letter or ignores this too as he is looking for a third party investigation!
