Leader of Opposition and YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy had asked the State police to defer their investigation into the attack on him at Visakhapatnam airport on October 25. He wanted the Special Investigating Team (SIT) to postpone their plans to record his statement on the issue.
The SIT had been trying to record Jaganmohan Reddy’s statement after it was formed. However, Jaganmohan Reddy had turned down their request twice so far. For the third time, the SIT had written a letter to Jaganmohan Reddy seeking permission to record his statement. In response to the letter, Jaganmohan Reddy had written a letter to the SIT, which was handed over to the sleuths by the YSR Congress leaders from Visakhapatnam.
Jaganmohan Reddy said that he had filed a writ petition in the High Court seeking its direction for a court-monitored investigation into the incident. The case is tabled for November 27 for hearing, he said. He wanted the SIT to wait till then to record his statement on the issue. He further reiterated that he had no confidence in the State police to accept the investigation as the police are working as per the directions of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu .
The YSR Congress chief had also written letters to Union Home Ministry and President of India seeking an independent investigation into the incident. He said he had no faith in the AP police as they were under the administrative control of Chandrababu Naidu. He wanted a third party probe where neither the Central government nor the State government are involved and the investigating officers are directly monitored by the courts.
Jaganmohan Reddy alleged that “there was a bigger conspiracy behind the attack, which was closely guided by the ruling Telugu Desam Party and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu”. He questioned the State police on issues like getting temporary permission for attacker Srinivasa Rao into the airport, giving job to him in the airport canteen, which is owned by a TDP leader and allowing Srinivasa Rao with knife into the VIP longue . He said that these acts are result of a bigger conspiracy and said that he would seek an independent probe into the issue.
It is to be seen if he agrees to give his statement to the SIT after November 27, when the HC hears his case.
