The much-awaited visit of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi to Telangana on Friday had raised the sentiments of the people once again. It was on the expected lines for the Congress leaders and its allies to recall the struggle for the statehood and the process through which the statehood was given.
It was because of the strong will power of Sonia Gandhi that brought statehood, though she had her own political interests in the decision. When the parliamentary process began to grant statehood to the region, the role of TRS or any other party was nothing. It was her will power that had bulldozed the process. However, the Congress leaders failed to project Sonia’s will power and cash in on that to get votes.
Having slept for four-and-a-half years, the Congress leaders woke up now and have successfully used this as sentiment for the December 7 elections. Sonia Gandhi too had done her best this time by speaking like a mother to her children. She had explained how difficult it was for her to create the Telangana State with aspirations and dreams of the people about their future. But, she said she was not happy or rather pained to see the people in distress as their dreams were not fulfilled even after four-and-a-half years. Her statement was taken well by the crowd and Telugu people are easily carried away by the sentimental statements of women leaders. That was what had given strong power to Indira Gandhi in the past.
If this sentimental statements work well as anticipated, it is for sure that the ruling TRS is in big trouble. The TRS leadership who have been targeting the Telugu Desam Party and its supremo Chandrababu Naidu for all these days would now have to give a counter to Sonia Gandhi’s sentimental statements. If they succeed in their counter, they are on the safe side, or else, have a big trouble ahead.
